Optimism can reduce the risk of heart problems

3 comments:
Sudden death at a young age often occurs because of heart problems. Studies prove, certain personality can reduce the risk of heart problems and premature deaths caused by it. "A person with the highest levels of optimism had a double opportunity to have ideal cardiovascular health than those who are pessimistic," said Rosalba Hernandez, a professor at the University of Illinois, quoted from ScienceDaily, Saturday (10/2015). Rosalba had a conclusion after examining 5,100 adults aged 45-84 years.

The participants were asked to follow a mental health-related survey, the level of optimism, and physical health are also associated with a history of chronic diseases including arthritis. The analysis shows, the total score for the general health tend to be proportional to the level of optimism.

Participants with the highest level of optimism has a chance at 50-70 percent higher to have a healthy heart. In addition to having a healthy heart, participants with the highest level of optimism also have cholesterol and blood sugar levels better than those who are pessimistic.

As published in the journal Health Behavior and Policy Review, optimistic person is also less chance to smoke. Rosalba assess this finding is important because at the community level, there is little difference in heart health can bring a significant reduction in mortality. Modification of psychological things, he thought could help the American Heart Association (AHA) achieve the goal of improving cardiovascular health by 20 percent before 2020.

Sleep During Infancy and Childhood.

1 comment:
During infancy.
---------------

For three or four weeks after birth the infant sleeps more or less, day and night, only waking to satisfy the demands of hunger; at the expiration of this time, however, each interval of wakefulness grows longer, so that it sleeps less frequently, but for longer periods at a time.

This disposition to repose in the early weeks of the infant's life must not be interfered with; but this period having expired, great care is necessary to induce regularity in its hours of sleep, otherwise too much will be taken in the day-time, and restless and disturbed nights will follow. The child should be brought into the habit of sleeping in the middle of the day, before its dinner, and for about two hours, more or less. If put to rest at a later period of the day, it will invariably cause a bad night.

At first the infant should sleep with its parent. The low temperature of its body, and its small power of generating heat, render this necessary. If it should happen, however, that the child has disturbed and restless nights, it must immediately be removed to the bed and care of another female, to be brought to its mother at an early hour in the morning, for the purpose of being nursed. This is necessary for the preservation of the mother's health, which through sleepless nights would of course be soon deranged, and the infant would also suffer from the influence which such deranged health would have upon the milk.

When a month or six weeks has elapsed, the child, if healthy, may sleep alone in a cradle or cot, care being taken that it has a sufficiency of clothing, that the room in which it is placed is sufficiently warm, viz. 60 degrees, and the position of the cot itself is not such as to be exposed to currents of cold air. It is essentially necessary to attend to these points, since the faculty of producing heat, and consequently the power of maintaining the temperature, is less during sleep than at any other time, and therefore exposure to cold is especially injurious.

It is but too frequently the case that inflammation of some internal organ will occur under such circumstances, without the true source of the disease ever being suspected. Here, however, a frequent error must be guarded against,  that of covering up the infant in its cot with too much clothing throwing over its face the muslin handkerchief and, last of all, drawing the drapery of the bed closely together. The object is to keep the infant sufficiently warm with pure air; it therefore ought to have free access to its mouth, and the atmosphere of the whole room should be kept sufficiently warm to allow the child to breathe it freely: in winter, therefore, there must always be a fire in the nursery.

The child up to two years old, at least, should sleep upon a feather bed, for the reasons referred to above. The pillow, however, after the sixth month, should be made of horsehair; for at this time teething commences, and it is highly important that the head should be kept cool.

During childhood.
----------------

Up to the third or fourth year the child should be permitted to sleep for an hour or so before its dinner. After this time it may gradually be discontinued; but it must be recollected, that during the whole period of childhood more sleep is required than in adult age. The child, therefore, should be put to rest every evening between seven and eight; and if it be in health it will sleep soundly until the following morning. No definite rule, however, can be laid down in reference to the number of hours of sleep to be allowed; for one will require more or less than another.Regularity as to the time of going to rest is the chief point to attend to; permit nothing to interfere with it, and then only let the child sleep without disturbance, until it awakes of its own accord on the following morning, and it will have had sufficient rest.

The amount of sleep necessary to preserve health varies according to the state of the body, and the habits of the individual. Infants pass much the greater portion of their time in sleep. Children sleep twelve or fourteen hours. The schoolboy generally ten. In youth, a third part of the twenty-four hours is spent in sleep. Whilst, in advanced age, many do not spend more than four, five, or six hours in sleep.

It is a cruel thing for a mother to sacrifice her child's health that she may indulge her own vanity, and yet how often is this done in reference to sleep. An evening party is to assemble, and the little child is kept up for hours beyond its stated time for retiring to rest, that it may be exhibited, fondled, and admired. Its usual portion of sleep is thus abridged, and, from the previous excitement, what little he does obtain, is broken and unrefreshing, and he rises on the morrow wearied and exhausted.

Once awake, it should not be permitted to lie longer in bed, but should be encouraged to arise immediately. This is the way to bring about the habit of early rising, which prevents many serious evils to which parents are not sufficiently alive, promotes both mental and corporeal health, and of all habits is said to be the most conducive to longevity.

A child should never be suddenly aroused from sleep; it excites the brain, quickens the action of the heart, and, if often repeated, serious consequences would result. The change of sleeping to waking should always be gradual.

The bed on which the child now sleeps should be a mattress: at this age a feather bed is always injurious to children; for the body, sinking deep into the bed, is completely buried in feathers, and the unnatural degree of warmth thus produced relaxes and weakens the system, particularly the skin, and renders the child unusually susceptible to the impressions of cold. Then, instead of the bed being made up in the morning as soon as vacated, and while still saturated with the nocturnal exhalations from the body, the bed-clothes should be thrown over the backs of chairs, the mattress shaken well up, and the window thrown open for several hours, so that the apartment shall be thoroughly ventilated. It is also indispensably requisite not to allow the child to sleep with persons in bad health, or who are far advanced in life; if possible, it should sleep alone.

Other Factors Affecting Body Weight

No comments:
When it comes to managing weight, however, genes are not destiny. Genes simply create a person’s susceptibility to being overweight or underweight or average. This makes it easier for some people to stay at a healthy weight than it is for others. But the main cause of modern obesity lies in the collision between the body’s ancient means to survive in times of famine and the western abundance and lifestyle.

Modern food is tasty, convenient, moderately priced, and almost always available. That makes the experience of eating more akin to recreation than to survival for many people. Americans also spend more time than ever before
in sedentary pursuits—watching TV, surfing the Internet, playing video games, and driving. That adds up to greater caloric intake than output and weight gain, even among young children.

Urban density is another contributing factor. More and more people leave rural communities to live closer together in bigger buildings and larger suburbs and cities. They have fewer safe places to walk, play, and practice the activities that promote fitness.

Lastly, schools are cutting back on physical education programs. Only 6 to 8 percent of public schools provide what physical education advocates recommend as essential to healthy physical development—gym classes five times a week. And in places where school budgets are tight, physical education is often one of the first programs to be cut. That leaves many students living in cities and suburbs with few chances to exercise at all.

People also must deal with psychological and emotional factors linked with obesity. For some people, overeating has become an easy distraction from negative emotions such as boredom, sadness, loneliness, or anger. Recent studies show that eating foods high in fats and sugars calms nerves and relieves stress, if only for a short while. That may explain why so many people in stressful modern society seem almost compulsively driven to eat junk food. Eating also has profound psychological links to parental love. Nurturing parents are the first to feed us and to worry over us. So eating often carries memories of security and being cared for.

Food is also a form of self-medication for people suffering from the winter depression known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD). SAD is a condition linked to fewer hours of sunlight and longer hours of darkness in winter. People with SAD report that they are driven to eat and sleep to excess.

Lastly, sleep deprivation (anything less than seven to nine hours within each twenty-four-hour cycle) has been linked to increased cravings for candy, sweets, salty chips, and French fries. Apparently the desire to snack is driven by a sharp drop in leptin levels when people are chronically tired.

Quarrels between couples due to lack of sleep

No comments:
Too busy, and lack of sleep is known to be a bad influence on health. But in fact not only that, a study revealed that  quarrel/fight or conflict between couple can happen due to lack of sleep.

Psychologist from UC Berkeley, Amie Gordon and Serena Chen, has revealed that people are more emotion on her partner or start a conflict in their relationship if it has been a bad night's sleep, as reported by the Times of India, on Thursday (07/11/2013) .

"Marriage, if often quarreled can be said to be less happy and less healthy, '' said Gordon, who is currently studying psychology at the doctoral level, and lead author of the study.

"We did this research to try to prove and remind each pair so that the result is no longer fighting due to lack of sleep, '' he added.

The study had previously researched that lack of sleep has a negative impact on marriage, but at this time the research explains more about how bad a compromise which was owned by couples who are sleep-deprived. This includes in terms of avoiding and managing conflict.

"For the first time in science, we can see the process of how the nature, degree, and conflict resolution can be made due to lack of sleep", said Chen, a Professor of psychology at UC Berkeley.

It's good to fill hours of sleep in a day at least 7-8 hours. In addition, keep the sleep quality and manage stress as well as you can, so that conflicts can be prevented. A healthy relationship is a mutual understanding and not easily provoked to start a conflict.

This research has been published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.

Men Libido lower than Women !

1 comment:
Men are often labeled always wanted and thought about sex all the time. However, now, more men are found to have a lower libido than women. The proof, one of the three men claimed to be suffering from low libido, while in women the comparison one in four women. However, low libido, remains a problem for both men and women.

Men believe that a bad diet is the primary cause of less passionate to have sex. There is also the assumed cause is the level of confidence in the form of the lower body. Drink too much, not exercising enough and lack sleep also claimed to have an impact on men's libido.

For women, low self-esteem on body shape is considered as the main cause of the decline in libido, followed by lack of sleep. Relationship problems,   a poor diet and consumption of birth control pills are also thought to contribute.

Though some may see the low libido as part of living simply, in fact they still regard it as something that should not have occurred and can be corrected by visiting a doctor.

Only 18 percent of people who suffer from low libido stated they get help for it. Most of them see herbal medicine as a solution, with only 11 percent of visiting a doctor.

Peter Farley from ukmedix(dot)com, who conducted the research, noted that, "Low libido proven to exist in almost all the beds of the couples in the UK and lead to relationship problems."

Usually, a happy relationship and healthy sex walking side by side. So, help yourself to keep healthy. (femalefirst)

Healthy Aging and a Good Nights Sleep

2 comments:
Healthy Aging is getting good nights sleep
As we grow older, we need to stay active to keep our bodies and system in shape. The older a person gets the less our bodies want to function so keeping it in shape is very important for all of us, even the younger people.

Sleeping is very important to all of us as we are aging. Aging brings on a different sleep pattern and we need to learn how to control it so when it is time to sleep we sleep well. It is normal as we age that it becomes harder to get a good nights sleep and feel rested when we wake up. Sleeping is as important as our diet and activities.

Did you know that it is hard for woman to sleep more so than men in their aging years?  Women have more tendencies to feel stressed out more and they sometimes are just too busy to get themselves into an exercising routine. If you don’t get enough sleep at night, it will reduce your alertness during the day because you’re tired. Long periods of sleepless nights can cause high blood pressure and isn’t good for the heart either.

10 disadvantages of sleep deprivation

17 comments:
Have you ever feel moody and dizzy? Maybe it was due to lack of sleep. Do not ever underestimate this situation! Lack of sleep can affect your sex life, memory, health, appearance, and even make your body fat.

Here are 10 surprising things that happen due to lack of sleep:
  1. Accidents, Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest disasters factors in the history other than nuclear accidents at Three Mile Island in 1979, the biggest oil spill Exxon Valdez, Chernobyl nuclear crisis in 1986, and so forth.Sounds excessive, but you must realize that lack of sleep also affects your safety every day on the road. Drowsiness can slow down your time driving, which is equivalent when you are drunk while driving. A study conducted by Safety Institute National Highway Traffic Americans showed that fatigue causes 100,000 car accidents and 1,500 deaths a year in the U.S.. The victim was a person under the age of 25 years old. The same study shows, if you lack sleep or have a low sleep quality, then it can cause accidents and injuries at work. In one study, workers who complain of excessive sleepiness during the day are vulnerable injured at work and constantly experience the same accident at work.
  2. It causes depression. A study on1997, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania reported that people who sleep less than 5 hours per day for seven days led to stress, anger, sadness, and mental fatigue. In addition, lack of sleep and sleep disorders can cause symptoms of depression. The most common sleep disorder is insomnia, which has strong links with depression. A study on 2007 involving 10,000 people revealed that people with insomnia 5 times more prone to depression. In fact, insomnia is often one of the first symptoms of depression. Insomnia and no appetite due to depression are related. Sleep deprivation exacerbates symptoms of depression and depression makes you more difficult to sleep. On the positive side, a good sleep pattern can help treat depression.
  3. Reduce Libido, lack of sleep in men and women reduce libido and sexual disfunction. This is due to depleted energy, drowsiness, and rising tension. For men who suffer from sleep apnea (breathing problems during sleep disturbing) lack of sleep cause sexual arousal sluggish. A study published on the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism in 2002 showed, almost all people who suffer from sleep apnea have lower testosterone levels. Nearly half of people who suffer from severe sleep apnea have a low testosterone level at night.

Things can make you fat

Sleep Deprivation
Metabolic processes can work well if your body enough rest .If the lack of rest , the body will experience stress that cause increases  of chemical reactions in the body , this will stimulate your appetite .Some people believe that eating before bedtime will make sleep more soundly , but what really happens is you are saving the fat in your body .
Stress
Stress was also a contributory factor to weight gain .If experiencing stress , some people have a tendency to eat more food .This is because food  that contain elements of high carbohydrate can increase levels of serotonin in the brain , causing a calming effect .Therefore , if the stress hit , find other activities to suppress it , for example sport.

The influence of drugs
Effects of each drug is different for consumrs .Some may cause drowsiness effect , increased appetite , change blood sugar into fat , and so forth .Therefore , do not forget to always consult with a physician expert on drugs and vitamins you consume.
